The 2011 Scottish Parliament election will be one of the toughest elections we have fought and we need our most experienced candidates to lead the campaign in the West of Scotland.
I am asking for your support so I can continue to take the fight to our political opponents and ensure that we achieve our goal of Independence.
I have been your MSP for the last eight years and am proud to have spent two years as the Minister for Communities and Sport in the first ever SNP Government.
I have the commitment and dedication needed to be your MSP for the next four years and I ask you to vote for me number ‘1’.
Of all the candidates I:
- Have the longest unbroken experience as an MSP
- Am the only candidate in the West of Scotland with experience as a Government Minister
- Helped win the 2014 Commonwealth Games for Scotland
- Started the Council House building programme and oversaw the largest number of new social houses built since devolution
- Am the only SNP MSP to represent Scotland, in Brussels, on European Committees dealing with Energy, Environment, Climate Change and Education
During my eight years as your MSP I have:
- Doubled the maximum jail sentence for carrying a knife
- Exposed the travel industry ripping off Scots holiday makers
- Exposed the built in bias of BBC news broadcasts
- Campaigned to cut the number of fire deaths by introducing fire-safe cigarettes
- Fought and won hundreds of cases for individual constituents in every constituency in the West of Scotland
Worked hard for the SNP over the last 20 years:
- Fighting to achieve Independence
- Elected member of National Council and the SNP National Executive Committee
- Committing time and effort to by-elections across the country
